Christmas Presents - LEGO Marvel Superheroes and Angry Birds Star Wars 2 Telepods

I love Christmas - it gives me a reason to shop around for nifty, fun gifts at a great bargain to pamper and thank those who helped me out in the office and for my boys!

This Christmas, however, having took a 2-month hiatus to enjoy being unemployed and now, just a couple of months in to my new job, I am cutting back on my expenses. This is the time to focus on needs rather than wants.

(Although it will be great to indulge in retail therapy to get rid of some stress!)

We settled on a couple of presents in the end for the boys only. My colleagues in the office will only receive chocolates and sweets instead of fancy gifts (unless I can source for something fun, like at miniToons from the Pasar Malams or Daiso)

WSW had been gushing about Lego Marvel Superheroes since he saw the trailers on Lego.com and after its launch on 18 October in the US, he kept bugging me to buy for him. I explained that he won't have time to play it since it was still school term. He also had a lot of Lego PS3 Titles lying around.

Come December, I found a demo copy in Playstation Network (PSN) and downloaded it for a trial. Boy...was that a mistake. WSW couldn't stop asking me to buy it. We walked past the game shop at Causeway Point a few times, and I always found an excuse not to go in (just in case, Lego Marvel Superheroes was in stock). Then the next thing you know, we went by and the shop had vacated. His face drooped so low, it almost touched the ground.

I felt really bad. So bad that I went home and I bought it off PSN. Guilt-tripping!
Angry Bird Telepods!

WSW also went in search of the Angry Birds Star Wars 2 Telepods at Metro. This is amazing technology, and the best part was that he chose what he wanted and paid with his own money. WOO-HOO.

WSW explained to me how this works and he couldn't wait to get home and try it out. We went home and found our Samsung Droids dead with the charger not functioning. He tried it on my Samsung Note 3 and somehow it didn't work.

Our BFF, Google, advised that the Telepods do not work with Samsung Note 3. Yet. What luck! We are still waiting to try it out on an iPad.....Patience is a virtue and in this case, it is a great learning experience.

Watch this from 2.19mins to see what I meant - AMAZING TECHNOLOGY.

You must be thinking that TSW must be such a quiet sweetheart while all these are happening. Well, he was shopping around too! He picked a Lego City Boat Set and gave his usual "but I don't have toy" look. I decided that since I got guilt-trip the first time, I cannot be unfair and I gave in.
Free or not, what are you?

I can almost feel you judging me across the social network.

Anyway, we ended up at Giant for grocery and I saw, probably, the BEST deal of the season - a giant 3-ft tall Teddy Bear, priced at $19.90 with every $30 purchase!! Since our trolley was loaded to the brim, we grabbed 2 - one for WSW (he is actually a softie inside) and one for Santi, my trusty helper.

Christmas is almost complete. Just short of the feasting and Christmas songs. Counting down to my (work deadlines) festive revelry...

Spent: $141.60
Lego Marvel Superheroes - $69.90
Angry Birds Star Wars 2 Telepod - $11.90
3-ft Tall Teddy Bear - $19.90
Lego City Set - $39.90

WSW found an free download and a paying one of Angry Birds Star Wars II on the Android Playstore. Not sure what is the difference but watch out! Let me know if you figure out the difference.

Christmas Shopping at IKEA Tampines

TSW with his new BFF
Over the past 2 years, we have accumulated quite a bit of Christmas decorations. This year, WSW asked for a gold star to place on the top of our Christmas tree, so we went in hunt of that shining star at IKEA Tampines.

Albeit, we were too late.

If you didn't know, shopping for Christmas decorations in Singapore probably starts slightly before Halloween ends. By the time we got there last weekend, there were hardly any deco left.

The boy was slightly disappointed. We managed to salvage the mood by finding a silver star topper for this year's tree.

Next year, our innate kiasu-ism will take over and we shall shop as soon as they are launched for fresh deco ideas for the house.

WSW with candy
As it was the December school holidays, the store seemed quieter on all fronts. We managed to get into SmÃ¥land without queuing - a first for Saturdays, nor did we have to search high and low for a table at the IKEA Restaurant. Confusion did kick in when I realised that they had swapped things around in the children's section and got us running lost for a moment, trying to hunt down a children's quilt for WSW. We gave up in the end.

IKEA gave shoppers free popcorn and cotton candy from 2pm to 5pm (READ: WSW and TSW went queueing) while those who made purchases above $100nett had a chance at the instant spin.

We bought TSW a plush shark while WSW got a dalmatian. Our dining table gained a new friend, the lazy susan, and a few smaller household items.
Guess what we won?! A hotdog and ice cream! Although a small prize, it got WSW buzzing for awhile.

Thank you IKEA for indulging us with Christmas around the corner. I do wish that time won't past so quickly whenever we're there.

Spent: $130 inclusive of meals and transport.

What makes the defining 1st post?

Engrossed with the new journal.
Hello there, I'm a 30-something single mum in the marketing communications field within the hospitality industry.

Through my recent PR (public relations) engagements with writers and bloggers, I have started to step back to take a look at my life. The shelf-life of a marketing girl usually does not live beyond 40 years old. Some might disagree, and they might be right.

I started blogging when I was only 17 years old and stopped after the guy I had broken up with took most of the contents out of context and created drama galore.

In 2005, The Mummy's Blog started off following every little step of my first pregnancy, but it took a hiatus after WSW was borned. It was revived in 2008 to follow baby #2's pregnancy. It didn't last too long as work started to engulf me, along with various other dramatics.

Blogging was, however, a process that I had enjoyed very much and never really left me.

With the two boys being much older now, and me going through life and asking what should I do now? I have decided to return to the blogosphere - to share, to review and perhaps, this is something for me to pass it on to the boys.

In all the posts, you can get a sense of the budget spent on the activities. We will also end off with "You Might Want To Know This" as a recommendation or just additional information that we think might be interesting for everyone to know.

Hopes. Dreams. A place to seek solace in.
